Circa 1913: Located west of Forest Park and north of Highway 64, Clayton is a thriving metropolitan area with a collection of specialty boutiques, art galleries, hotels and top-rated restaurants. Upscale condominiums and tall, contemporary office buildings frame the central business district of Clayton. This area, located between Maryland Avenue on the north, Shaw Park to the west and Forest Park Blvd along the south, is headquarters to many Fortune 500 companies including Centene and Enterprise.
The residential neighborhood along Wydown Boulevard, from the St. Louis city limits to Hanley Road, is noted for its elegant homes and innovative schools, including Washington University, Fontbonne College and the Concordia Seminary. Just 15 minutes from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and 10 minutes from downtown St. Louis, the city of Clayton is a year-round destination with plenty to see, eat and drink.
Fun fact: Martin Hanley’s 129-year-old farmhouse still stands on the edge of Clayton, a testament to the city’s combination of urban flair and community.
Shaw Park is, in our opinion, the best park in all of St. Louis. The park includes the pool, which has everything from a 3-level diving platform, to a massive kid-friendly pool and a 50-meter competition pool. Shaw Park houses the outdoor ice rink to fulfill all of your holiday fantasies of ice skating on a snowy day. The park has many playgrounds for children, some of which include splash pads. Any adult that grew up in Clayton remembers Saturday mornings as a child spent on the soccer and baseball fields.
